About the book
Isabel is raised in a small Catholic village
in Southern Germany, in
the deceptive
idyll of the little hunting lodge where her
mother manages an inn. There
is an on-site
slaughterhouse, and the regulars all chip in
to help skin the rabbits.
Pulling pints of
beer and shrugging off the guests’ lewd
remarks, Isabel lives her
life in full view of
the customers. Her hardworking and
constantly stressed parents don’t
have the
time to give her a proper childhood.
The guests’ bills and satisfaction
are
deemed more important than their daughter’s
well-being. Isabel
soon realises this is
a world she wants to leave behind.
